The nursery rhyme goes: once upon a time, there were a granny and a grandpa. And they had a little motley hen.
The hen laid an egg - not a plain one, a golden one. Grandpa hit it - the egg didn't break. Grandma hit it - the egg didn't break. A mouse ran by, flicked its tail, the egg fell down and broke. Grandma is crying, grandpa is crying, and the little motley hen is clucking: "Don't cry, grandpa, don't cry, grandma, I will lay another egg for you, not a golden one, a plain one." The end.
...And this performance is an hourlong riff on that story. Why did they want to break the egg in the first place? What's the deal with the mighty mouse? What's the value of a golden egg?
With witty dialogue and a ton of physical comedy, this performance won the "Best comedy" award at the 2015 Russian Children's Theatres' Festival in Washington, DC.
