On January 7 and 8, 2016, Maryland's Main Christmas Tree lit its lights at the New Year's holiday show “Alyosha Popovich and The New Year”. That year, the guests of the Christmas tree performance met their long-beloved fairy-tale characters Alyosha Popovich, Ded Moroz (Grandpa Frost), Snegurochka (Snowmaden), the Shamankhan Queen. But as usual, Baba Yaga and Kikimora joined the show. The program was also attended by "overseas guest" or Magician and Wizard Mr. DaveThomen. Such an event is unique and so long-awaited among the Russian-speaking community of Maryland and the surrounding states.
The organizers were facing the most important task to make a holiday for children and adults, to acquaint very young viewers with the heroes/heroines and traditions of Russian fairy tales, and to entertain the older viewers and plunge into the world of fairy tales, fun, and magical mood. And according to the viewers, this task was completed successfully!
